Destination in design

The Vaal has always been a popular weekend destination for Jozi folk who flock there with their boats and brides. And then they added a casino and conferences, wine route, golf and spas to the luxury mix, and let’s not forget the floating restaurants and sundowner cruises… making it even more irresistible.

So, it’s no surprise that two of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ teams will be accommodated on the lush riverbanks of the Vaal River, located just under an hour from Johannesburg. Cote d’Ivoire and Switzerland will be enjoying the Riverside Hotel & Conference Centre and the Emerald Resort & Casino respectively.

The latest, most exciting addition to the Vaal menu has to be fashion. The past weekend saw the first Vaal Designer of the Year awards, as part of the annual FAB FAYRE Wedding Expo at Riverside Hotel & Conference Centre and later this year, the Vaal will boast its own Vaal Fashion Week (3-6 Nov)!

Judging by the winning design (see the photo), which encapsulated the Vaal River and sunsets beautifully, brides-to-be and Sandton socialites can expect making an entrance when they discover the Vaal’s best-kept secret – it’s local talent.
