Now there are more reasons than art, culture, and struggle heritage to draw you into Soweto – South Africa’s most famous and vibey township - the Orlando Towers bungee jump…
Officially launched yesterday as part of the 350 carbon awareness campaign, you can now do the world’s only bungee jump between 2 concrete cooling towers! Never mind that the distinctive artwork alone is the coolest you’ll ever come across on a cooling tower, capturing real township rhythm and soul.
The Orlando Towers are approx. 100 metres high, giving a spectacular 360 degree panorama of sprawling Soweto from a viewing platform.
The adventure centre launched in 2008 with a 100m power swing jump between the towers. For those who’d rather jump into the concrete towers [yeah, there are people who would LOVE to do that and they know who they are], rap jumping and the ominous sounding ‘The Abyss’ are on offer… base jumping too can be organised by appointment.
Visit their website on www.orlandotowers.co.za and book an experience. For the 350 carbon awareness campaign, see www.350.org and let’s keep our climate safe, so we can continue enjoying life and travel.
There is something about a Top 10 checklist that gives the items making an appearance a certain desirability, even attainability. They speak of quality, star quality, with a magnetism that begs action and somehow the wish list turns into a ‘to do’ list, and you’re on your way to planning a personal adventure - something that stretches you beyond your comfort zone.
We have over 200 Top 10 lists for you to choose from and make your own – these lists were advised by experts in their respective fields and include award-winning places and activities, so you know you’re up for top-of-the-range experiences!
So, whether you do bucket lists [to do before you kick the bucket, i.e. die], life lists, or must-do, must-see lists - have fun finding yours and then enjoying the ultimate satisfaction of having the best experiences out there whilst ticking things off your list…
Sunny South African greetings to you :) fellow adventurers, trade partners and journo’s!
Much like our country, this blog is a space where we can share, learn, grow, laugh and, definitely travel... So, sit back, relax and enjoy the stories, secrets and scenery along the way!

Join me, when?
You’re invited to join me weekly - Friday seems like a good excuse to talk travel - and I will keep this blog lekker for you to come back and enjoy the stories, as if around a cozy bush fire (South African bushveld is the best setting for those – ask anyone who’s been), and I promise to only tell you what’s really worth knowing!
So, what's Izibongi?
Praise poems composed on the spot whenever an occasion arises or there is something to tell a story about.
In doing research for your next trip to South Africa, you may come across contradictory 'facts' or you may just wonder about something you've read or heard.
